Just wanted to say how impressed I am with this product – I have now been able to remove the old cylinders from 4 Aeron Chairs that had been firmly stuck in place after 15 years of constant use and have defeated several previous attempts to be replaced – your replacement tool made a difficult job very easy.
The removal tool was a huge selling point for me. I was stuck (literally) on removing the old cylinder from the base of the seat.
The removal tool worked like a charm and I’m back in my comfy chair again. As a tip – use two wrenches at the same time on the nuts that push the rings apart – makes things go smoother.
I had to have some help getting the old cylinder out but one that was accomplished it went very smoothly.
Bought this cylinder to fix my office chairs inability to stay in the position selected.....It now does thanks to the opportunity to purchase from this seller. It took a little bit of work, but was easier than I made it!!
My 20-year old Aeron's air cylinder recently failed. Not knowing this product comes with a removal tool, I took out the old cylinder the hard way. This involved a sizable hammer, and quite a bit of work. For my chair, detaching the cylinder from the bottom wheel assembly was relatively easy. A few hits got it loose. The top part, on the other hand, was much more difficult. I ended up removing the seat pan, and cover of the spring assembly. I had to hit top part of the cylinder via a suitable hex socket really hard. And I mean REALLY hard. It eventually came out.Putting it back together was a breeze. Everything fit nicely. I did have to adjust the cable actuator inside the spring assembly, so the plate would activate the cylinder switch. Looking back, I should have waited for the part to arrive, because it comes with a removal tool. I did not actually use it, but it does look like a well-designed and well-made product by itself. I have saved it, in case I need it in the future.I don't know whether it will fit other office chairs, but it fit the Aeron perfectly. Only time will tell whether it will last the same 20 years.
So much less expensive than the OEM cylinder and worked perfectly and saved $1,000 chair from the junk file
Don't follow what it says in the manual. Their process to slowly wedge the cyllinder out to remove it doesn't work. The best method would be to attach one of the collars to your current cyllinder and hit it with a hammer until it comes loose
I was so excited to be able to fix my chair myself and for such a reasonable price (especially after calling Herman Miller vendor) that I forgot to put the plastic sleeve? back before bouncing on newly repaired chair. NBD.Great product!
