Chair Cylinder Removal Tool

This did what it needed to do. Sturdy and well-built. You might need to repeat the process a couple of times to get the cylinder out.

My chair has not “held height” upon weight being put on it since a month after I bought from office surplus store. I was having to readjust height all the time. After my husband had “catastrophic failure” of his chair (rod poking through bottom of cylinder), we bought kit with tool from Amazon. After it was so easy and inexpensive to change cylinder with tool, I decided to do the same for my chair. So nice to have not touched adjustment lever since initially getting back to my desk vs. every session.

I was wailing on my chair for several days because I didn’t want to spend the $20 for this. I wish I would have just spend the $20 instead of wasting my time and energy. It really just works.

My chair was stuck in the lowest position (from all that wailing), but I was able to force it open just enough to get the collars and bolts in. Just a small bit of effort on the vertical bolts caused the cylinder to break free.

(25+ year old Herman Miller Aeron chair. Not sure how old exactly because I got it third-hand).

I have a high-end chair that is 25 years old and the cylinder quit working. The chair manufacturer had no repair parts, so I purchased a cylinder online, but I couldn’t get the top of the cylinder to disengage from the chair. Your shaft collars did the job very quickly, and the cylinder included in the kit worked well. Very satisfied with this kit.
